About the Unit Price Calculator
Comparing prices across differently sized packages is only fair when you look at the price per unit, not the sticker price alone — a bigger package that looks more expensive can actually be the better deal. This calculator finds the price per single unit for any product.
How It Works
The calculator simply divides the total price by the quantity of units in the package, giving a normalized cost per single ounce, pound, item, or whatever unit the quantity represents.
Price per Unit = Total Price / Quantity.
Worked example
Scenario: A 32 oz package that costs $7.98.
- Unit price: $7.98 ÷ 32 = $0.249 per oz.
- Rounded: about $0.25 per ounce.
Result: About $0.25 per ounce.
Tips and common mistakes
- Compare items in the same unit — convert pounds to ounces (× 16) or liters to milliliters first.
- Shelf labels sometimes use different units for similar products; recalculate to be sure.
