Shipping estimates, project deadlines, and contract terms are often measured in business days, not calendar days — this calculator counts exactly how many weekdays fall between two dates, automatically excluding Saturdays and Sundays.
How It Works
The calculator steps through every calendar day between the two dates you provide and counts only those that fall on Monday through Friday, skipping Saturday and Sunday entirely.
Business Days = count of days between Start Date and End Date where the day of week is Monday–Friday.
Worked example
Scenario: Counting working days from Monday, March 2 to Friday, March 13, 2026.
- The span covers two full Monday-to-Friday weeks.
- Both the start and end dates are counted.
- Weekend days (March 7, 8) are excluded: 12 calendar days − 2 = 10.
Result: 10 business days.
Tips and common mistakes
- Public holidays aren't excluded automatically; subtract any that fall in the range.
- The count includes both the start and end date when they are weekdays.
- Shipping and legal deadlines often exclude the start date — subtract 1 in that case.
Assumptions & Limitations
- Excludes only Saturday and Sunday — public holidays are not automatically excluded since holiday calendars vary by country and region.
- Both the start and end date are included in the count if they fall on a weekday.
- For a jurisdiction-specific count that also excludes public holidays, subtract those holiday dates manually from the result.
Business days vs calendar days
Calendar days include every date. Business days normally count Monday through Friday and exclude weekends; public holidays may also need to be excluded depending on the country, employer, bank, contract, or service involved.
Practical example
A span of seven consecutive calendar days normally contains five weekdays, but a public holiday can reduce the actual working-day count. Use the result as a planning value unless your specific holiday calendar is included.
