Timesheet Calculator
Add up daily hours across a week to get total hours, average per day, and overtime.
About the Timesheet Calculator
Weekly timesheets need more than a simple sum — knowing your average day and whether you have crossed into overtime territory matters just as much. This calculator totals any list of daily hours and reports the sum, the average per day, and hours worked beyond the standard 40-hour week.
How It Works
The calculator parses your list of daily hours (separated by commas or new lines), adds them together for a weekly total, divides by the number of days entered for the daily average, and calculates any hours above 40 as overtime.
Total Hours = sum of all daily entries; Average = Total / Number of Days; Overtime = max(0, Total − 40).
Example
Scenario: Daily hours of 8, 7.5, 8, 8, and 6 across a five-day week.
Result: Total of 37.5 hours, an average of 7.5 hours per day, and 0 hours of overtime since the total is under 40.
Assumptions & Limitations
- Uses a standard 40-hour week as the overtime threshold, which is the common US federal standard — some jurisdictions or contracts use different thresholds.
- Accepts hours entered as decimals (like 7.5) for partial hours.
- Does not distinguish between regular and already-paid overtime hours in the input, and applies a single flat 40-hour threshold regardless of local labor law variations.
